4 Mobile Operators and 2 French Banks Launch the First Deployment of a "SIM-centric" NFC Solutions in Collaboration With Oberthur Technologies
NICE, France, May 26, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oberthur Technologies, one of the world's largest providers of smart cards technology was selected by Bouygues Telecom, Orange, SFR and two French banks for the launch of the first commercial deployment of the project << Nice, NFC City." For this project, the Group CM-CIC and its operator NRJ Mobile will also use SIM cards provided by Oberthur Technologies.
Oberthur Technologies is the primary supplier of SIM cards which host applications allowing end users to pay for goods and services at merchants throughout Nice and to use public transport.
TelepathIC, a complete solution from Oberthur Technologies which provides remote management for the entire life cycle of NFC cards and services was also chosen by Bouygues Telecom, SFR and a bank participating in the project.
Now and for the first time, residents in the French city of Nice will be able to pay for goods and services at merchants, access and use loyalty programs, purchase public transport tickets and obtain information on routes and timetables using NFC handsets using technology deployed by Oberthur. Future NFC functionality is expected to be rolled out gradually, in order to develop the use of mobile handsets in the daily life of end users.
