Obama's Speech on Immigration Repeats Same Tired Arguments in Favor of Amnesty
SANTA BARBARA, Calif., July 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a speech on immigration policy, President Obama repeated his call for an amnesty under the guise of comprehensive immigration reform, but that approach drew scorn from the nonprofit group, Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS).
"There was nothing new in the speech. He just repeated the same arguments and trite cliches in favor of an amnesty plan that the American people have resoundingly rejected," said Marilyn DeYoung, Chairman of the Board of CAPS.
Obama said we must choose among a "blanket amnesty," an immediate deportation of all illegal aliens, or his amnesty plan where those who have broken our immigration laws would have to pay a fine and learn English, but be allowed to remain here.
"That is simply a false choice. The best option is attrition through enforcement. If we enforce our laws at the border and workplace, the number of illegals will gradually diminish," stated DeYoung.
The President blamed the "pressure of partisanship and election year politics" for derailing his plans for an immigration amnesty.
"I believe that is called democracy," DeYoung retorted.
Obama again panned the Arizona law as "ill-conceived." This, too, suggests he is out of touch with American voters since several surveys have shown broad, national support for the Arizona law. The Associated Press reported that its recent poll found almost twice as many people support the Arizona law as oppose it.
"America is a wonderful country, and we should be proud that so many people want to come here, but we must have some limits on immigration, and we must enforce those limits," said DeYoung. "Obama is just offering us old wine in new bottles, and the American people will not fall for it."
