Summary
China had a total installed capacity of 978,178 MW with nuclear capacity of 10,058 MW as of 2010. China currently has 13 operational nuclear power reactors, which are of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) types. There are 11 PWR and two PHWR reactors. The country along with utility companies has plans to achieve 80 GWe of nuclear capacity by 2020, 200 GWe by 2030 and 400 GWe by 2050. Thermal power contributes to the majority (80.6%) of power generation in China followed by hydro, wind, nuclear and others. The country is planning to become a self-sufficient entity in all the stages of the nuclear fuel cycle.
