Noteworthy Medical Systems Serves as Information Hub for New Jersey's First Multi-Hospital Health Information Exchange
PHOENIX, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Noteworthy Medical Systems, Inc., a leading provider of connected healthcare technology solutions for the ambulatory sector, announced today its selection by The Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers to be the information hub of New Jersey's first multi-hospital health information exchange (HIE). The Camden Health Information Exchange (CHIE) is an electronic medical records interface that will allow Camden, New Jersey's emergency room and primary care physicians to access crucial patient data from various sources.
The CHIE is a unique nonprofit coalition of three competing health systems—Cooper University Hospital, Virtua Health System and Our Lady of Lourdes Health System— brought together, in part, to reduce healthcare costs and provide more expedient and informed healthcare to an urban community that is typically uninsured and underserved. The CHIE will facilitate improved patient care and the sharing of detailed clinical data among community providers, the three major health systems, referring lab and radiology groups and other healthcare data providers in the region.
Funded partially by a Merck Company Foundation grant received by CHIE, Noteworthy will build linkages between computer systems at Cooper, Lourdes and Virtua Hospitals; Labcorp; and Quest. In the first phase of the project, an emergency department or primary care clinician will be able to access a patient's recent lab results, radiology reports and discharge summaries. The exchange should be functional by spring of this year.
"In a city of 79,000, CHIE physicians frequently encounter patients in their office or hospital and have no immediate source of health history—what medical conditions exist, what medications have been prescribed or what prior treatment they've received. The process of gathering the necessary records in such settings is far from ideal; it has to change and we're proud that Noteworthy will help us accomplish that change. Their technology will make it possible to reduce costs, improve access and increase quality," says Dr. Jeffrey Brenner, medical director of the Camden Coalition of Healthcare Providers and the driving force behind CHIE's creation.
"It's not often we see three highly competitive entities come together for the good of a community," says Susan E. Hagerty, Noteworthy's CEO and chairman of the board. "We are proud that our technology will not only enable the exchange of Camden's health data, but serve as a catalyst for such momentous renovation in surrounding communities in New Jersey and adjoining states."
