Northstar® Resort Expands Resort Boundaries, Provides Access to New Sidecountry Terrain
North Lake Tahoe Resort Now Offering Snow Cat Accessed Skiing and Guided Sidecountry Tours to Advanced Skiers and Riders
TRUCKEE, Calif., Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northstar Resort today announced it will expand the resort boundaries in two areas of the mountain, adding 170 acres of new sidecountry terrain to the resort's skiable acreage. Guided sidecountry tours and snow cat accessed skiing and riding will also be offered for the first time to advanced skiers and riders who want to explore the resort's new terrain offering.
"Northstar already had some of the best tree skiing in Tahoe, but with the expansion of our boundaries, skiers and riders will now have access to even more powder stashes and incredible glade skiing," said Bill Rock, chief operating officer at Northstar Resort. "And, for those interested in learning the ins and outs of these areas with someone more familiar, guided tours will be available both within and outside the resort's boundaries."
The resort's boundary lines will be extended to the skier's left of the Prosser ski trail on Lookout Mountain, giving access to approximately 1,000 vertical feet of new terrain within the new Lookout Glade (accessed off of the Martis Camp Express chairlift). Additional boundary expansion will take place to the skier's right of the Logger's Loop ski trail, providing access to approximately 800 vertical feet of new terrain within the Sawmill Glade, accessed off of the Vista Express chairlift. Both of these areas will be open to advanced skiers and riders, and guided tours will be offered through the resort's Ski & Snowboard School into these new areas as well as existing sidecountry terrain on White Rabbit and Sawtooth Ridge.
Snow cat accessed skiing and riding will also be offered for the first time this year on Sawtooth Ridge, offering unprecedented access to a popular sidecountry area that was already included within the resort's boundary and previously open to advanced skiers and riders when snow conditions permitted. In addition, guided backcountry tours will be available to advanced skiers and riders interested in skiing or riding outside the resort's boundary on Sawtooth Ridge to a potential area of future expansion, when conditions permit.
The addition of this new terrain provides Northstar Resort guests with access to 3,170 acres of skiable terrain.
