"NVTC applauds today's announcement. Sam Nixon is the ideal choice to serve as the Chief Information Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Sam has a strong reputation within the legislature, among state employees and within Virginia's statewide technology business community as a technology champion, information technology expert and dedicated public servant," said NVTC President & CEO Bobbie Kilberg. "In this new role, Sam's deep background in technology policy, oversight and operations resulting from years of experience in both the public and private sectors will continue to provide tremendous value to Virginia. We look forward to working with Sam and supporting his efforts as Virginia's CIO."
Nixon, whom NVTC has recognized twice as a "Tech Ten" legislator, will resign from his position in the House of Delegates, where he is currently serving his ninth term. In the House, he has served on the House Science and Technology Committee as well as on the Joint Commission on Technology and Science.
NVTC has been a strong advocate for the CIO reporting directly to Virginia's Governor through the Secretary of Technology in order to increase accountability and authority within the state's information technology governance structure.
