Nomura Appoints New Investment Banking Heads for the Americas and Asia Ex-Japan
NEW YORK and HONG KONG, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Nomura, the global investment bank, today announced that Glenn H. Schiffman will be appointed the Head of Investment Banking for the Americas, effective February 1, 2010, subject to receipt of relevant U.S. licenses and regulatory approvals. Mr. Schiffman is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking for Asia ex-Japan.

Nomura in the Americas has experienced rapid growth in the last 12 months, particularly in Fixed Income and Equities, having increased its employees by more than 50 per cent to service its rapidly growing global and North American client base.
In order to continue the momentum in the Asia business, Patrick Schimtz-Morkramer and Colin Banfield will become Joint Heads of Investment Banking Asia ex-Japan. Tomoko Iino, who previously led Investment Banking for the Americas, will become Co-Head of Investment Banking for the Americas.
Prior to Nomura's acquisition of Lehman Brothers, Mr. Schiffman was Head of Investment Banking Asia-Pacific at Lehman Brothers, and as a member of the Asia Executive Committee helped to manage the sale of Lehman's Asian business to Nomura in September of 2008. Mr. Schiffman started at Lehman Brothers in 1991. During his career he has executed financings as well as M&A transactions well in excess of $100s of billions. At Lehman Brothers, he held many senior leadership roles, culminating in the global head of the Media Group in New York.
In early 2007, Mr Schiffman was appointed head of Lehman Brothers' Investment Banking business in the region and a member of the global Banking Executive Committee. In Mr. Schiffman's time in Asia, he presided over significant growth in the investment banking business, helping to win a number of awards, including FinanceAsia's Momentum House of the Year for 2007, a number 1 position in completed M&A deals for 2008, and a leading position in M&A for 2009. As Head of Investment Banking Asia ex-Japan at Nomura, Mr Schiffman led the integration of the Nomura and Lehman investment banking businesses. Mr. Schiffman is a graduate of Duke University.
Colin Banfield has nearly 19 years of advisory and capital market investment banking experience and has been working in Asia since late 1995. He has advised on a broad range of assignments across each of the different countries within the Asia region and has been instrumental in driving cross-border deal flow and dialogue with the other regions globally. Prior to Nomura's acquisition of Lehman Brothers' Asia operations he was head of M&A at Lehman Brothers Asia where he worked with his partners to build the number 1 ranked M&A advisory business in Asia and before that he held a similar role at Credit Suisse. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in London with KPMG Peat Marwick and holds a degree in Accounting & Finance from the London School of Economics, University of London. Mr Banfield is from Hong Kong and is fluent in Cantonese
Before taking up this new role Dr. Patrick W. Schmitz-Morkramer was Country Co-country head of Nomura Bank (Deutschland) Gmbh and Head of Investment Banking Germany and Austria. Prior to joining Nomura in November 2008, Patrick had been at Lehman Brothers since 1999, where he last held the position of Co-head of Investment Banking, Germany Austria and Switzerland. Before that he worked in Corporate Finance at Shearman and Sterling. Patrick has advised on numerous large transactions in corporate Germany and has led some of the largest LBOs in Europe. He holds a degree in law from the University of Passau and a PhD in international telecommunications law at Frankfurt University.
