SAN FRANCISCO, March 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- GDC - Nod Labs, a Mountain View-based company specializing in motion tracking and gesture control, is today unveiling Project Goa, a powerful new technology that brings precision head and hand tracking to mobile VR. Debuting at the Game Developers Conference, Goa presents OEMs and partners with the technological solution to power the first-ever compact mobile VR console. Nod will bring the solution to market with select partners as early as 2016.
The result of rigorous research, development and testing, Goa solves the tracking performance and processing challenges that have stifled mobile VR growth. With a headset, two controllers, and a charging base that features a discreet camera and offloaded processing, Goa advances the industry towards more consumer-friendly products and prices without sacrificing the immersive, interactive qualities set by industry leaders HTC and Oculus.
"As a company, our focus is to communicate human intent," said Anush Elangovan, Founder/CEO at Nod Labs. "We looked at VR, and challenged ourselves to track that intent with sub-millimeter accuracy, while also trying to dissolve some of the intimidating setup that's typically required to do it. We believe in VR, and our goal with Project Goa is to present a complete mobile tracking solution that encourages interactive content, affordability, and ease of use."
Nod has also benefited from input from two of VR's most brilliant vision and motion scientists, Professor Steven LaValle and Anna Yershova, who have joined the team as active Advisors. LaValle is the Former Chief Scientist at Oculus and an esteemed Professor at the University of Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Yershova is a Lecturer at UIUC and a former Oculus Research Scientist. The pair played a critical role in bringing Oculus to life, and now bring their deep expertise in vision, motion, and perceptual psychology to Nod.
