No Labels Interrupts Election Year Partisan Fighting with National Ideas Meeting in D.C.
Bipartisan group of leaders from across the nation, including members of Congress, state & local officials, business, citizen and community leaders expected to attend
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Six weeks before Election Day, No Labels is holding an unprecedented gathering bringing together a bipartisan group of leaders from across the nation, including members of Congress, state and local officials, and business and community leaders, at the United States Institute of Peace Wednesday, Sept. 17. The National Ideas Meeting will kick off a yearlong process to create a National Strategic Agenda that will be unveiled in October 2015.
The National Ideas Meeting is the first of many meetings that No Labels will use to gather input from people across the country to forge a vision for where America needs to go and how we get there. No Labels believes that the National Strategic Agenda provides the how in how we unite the country. The goal of the exercise is to create a fully formed policy plan that can shape the next presidential debate and ultimately, the agenda of the next president.
The National Strategic Agenda will aim to solve problems the way they should be solved: first, set goals, then, agree on the broad principles and specific policies that will enable you to achieve them.
The National Ideas Meeting will include panel discussions moderated by David Gregory and CNN's Dana Bash that will feature No Labels' honorary co-chairs Gov. Jon Huntsman and U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, as well as members of Congress.
No Labels is calling for America's leaders to support a new governing process to build a National Strategic Agenda centered on four goals. These goals – chosen with input from a nationwide survey that No Labels conducted last fall – are:
- Create 25 million new jobs over the next 10 years;
- Balance the federal budget by 2030;
- Secure Medicare and Social Security for another 75 years; and
- Make America energy secure by 2024.
The completed National Strategic Agenda will be unveiled in New Hampshire and Iowa on October 5, 2015 just as the presidential election campaign season is ramping up.
No Labels is a national movement of Democrats, Republicans and independents dedicated to a new politics of problem solving. In early 2014, No Labels launched its signature campaign for a National Strategic Agenda, which calls for America's political leaders to commit to a new governing process that can enable the nation to create 25 million jobs, balance the budget, secure Medicare and Social Security and achieve American energy security.
