New York State Regional Extension Center Selects Greenway
Preferred EHR Provider Designation Follows Separate Selection of Greenway by New York City REC
CARROLLTON, Ga., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York eHealth Collaborative, the coordinating Regional Extension Center (REC) for the state of New York, has selected Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc., provider of the fully-integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite®, as a preferred EHR provider to more than 5,000 practitioners statewide.
The federal department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded grants to two separate Regional Extension Centers, the state of New York, and New York City, both of which have now selected Greenway's PrimeSuite as an EHR recommended for implementation by the two regions' healthcare practitioners.
In April, the citywide NYC Regional Electronic Adoption Center for Health (NYC REACH) selected Greenway's PrimeSuite as a preferred EHR for practitioners within New York City's five boroughs as part of its $21.7 million HHS REC grant. (Also in April, Greenway's first statewide designation was announced when the Alaska EHR Alliance chose Greenway as a preferred provider to its healthcare practitioners.)
On June 4, for the state of New York REC, the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) announced Greenway as a preferred EHR provider recommended to statewide practitioners outside of New York City. NYeC received a $26.5 million REC grant to also provide EHR educational, technical and implementation resources to improve patient care and advance data exchange.
"Adoption of electronic health records is a critical step in the transformation process for New York's healthcare ecosystem. Setting providers on the path to meaningful use of electronic health records and accelerating IT adoption requires high quality, highly functional systems that offer integrated practice and clinical management functions, interoperability, standard data exchange, and the opportunity to achieve meaningful use," said Paul Wilder, director of Healthcare IT Adoption for the New York eHealth Collaborative. "Greenway's PrimeSuite exceeded our qualification standards for preferred REC status and we look forward to a productive partnership between Greenway, NYeC and the providers of New York."
Combined, the $48.2 million for the two New York grants is the nation's largest, and target more than 10,000 practitioners overall. Established in 2006 and supported by the New York State Department of Health, NYeC conducted a series of EHR Meaningful Use Summits in conjunction with NYC REACH as part of their EHR adoption programs. Greenway was a sponsor of the events, which drew statewide attendance of more than 1,000 participants.
"We are very pleased to be a preferred partner of the eHealth Collaborative's statewide Regional Extension Center program, and support its efforts to increase EHR adoption and meaningful use while working to improve regional and national care coordination," said Greenway president and CEO Tee Green. "The REC grant programs are vital to the creation of a national health information network, and Greenway takes the foresight of these combined selections very seriously. PrimeSuite's usability and integration of clinical, financial and administrative workflows will benefit practitioners in REC jurisdictions, and our customizable clinical workflows have proven benefits for primary care and specialty practices."
The national REC program has granted $598 million to establish 60 centers linking group practices, critical access hospitals, community health centers and relation healthcare organizations through sustainable two-year grants.
