New Survey from OxiClean™ Dishwasher Detergent Reveals that All is Not Fair in Love and Dishes
National consumer survey highlights how dirty dishes have impacted relationships and daily routines, while tracking how family chores have evolved
EWING, N.J., April 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Church & Dwight Co., Inc., the makers of OxiClean™ Extreme Power Crystals™ Dishwasher Detergent, today released its Modern Family Cleanup Survey, which looked at the evolution of how people approach cleaning and dishwashing, as well as how attitudes and behaviors compare between genders and generations. The survey of more than 1,000 people found that dirty dishes can spoil couples' moods, that today's children are doing fewer chores, and that above all, Americans are looking for more efficient ways of doing the dishes.
Efficacy in loading the dishwasher was a topic of particular interest to respondents, 72 percent of whom said that they have a particular system for loading the dishwasher, with 52 percent preferring to load the dishes from "back" to "front." Interestingly, 70 percent also admitted to re-arranging dishes that others had already loaded into the dishwasher.
Process and Problems: According to the Survey, washing the dishes is among America's least favorite chores, and is a process that the majority of people (72%) wish were easier. As a daily chore, dishwashing takes up approximately 23 minutes per day – which adds up to roughly 5.8 days a year. Among the causes of this time-consuming process is pre-rinsing, which nearly nine in 10 dishwasher users (87%) admit to doing, though most (79%) agree it should not be necessary. When asked about their pre-rinsing habits, 59 percent of people said they had inherited the habit from their parents. Despite this, a near-unanimous 91 percent of respondents said that the idea of a one-step clean would be "appealing."
"We understand that the hassle of daily chores can be frustrating and time-consuming," said Ed Kline, Director of the OxiClean™ brand at Church & Dwight Co., Inc. "We invite consumers to make a switch in their habits and welcome a one-step clean into their dishwashing routine with OxiClean™ Dishwasher Detergent, which delivers the performance they've come to expect from OxiClean™, so they can spend less time at the sink and more time enjoying the things they love to do."
Dishes that need to be re-washed or manually scrubbed can be frustrating. OxiClean™ Extreme Power Crystals™ Dishwasher Detergent offers a one-step clean with its unique, concentrated, and oxygen cleaning formula that tackles the toughest stuck-on food and prevents cloudy film and spots for sparkling clean dishes the first time.
Relationship Tensions: A sink full of dirty dishes can "spoil the mood," according to 79 percent of female respondents and 70 percent of male respondents. Furthermore, half of all Americans agree that they consider dirty dishes to be a sign of poor hygiene in their partner. When it comes to help around the house, almost half of women in relationships (44%) think their partner avoids doing the dishes, and nearly three-quarters of women (73%) wish their partner would help out daily with this chore. Don't count on it though, since most men in relationships (83%) think their partner is good at doing the dishes – while only 69 percent of women in relationships reported the same. Overall, one in 10 couples admitted to arguing frequently about doing the dishes.
Now vs. Then: The Survey showed that parents today admit their kids are doing fewer household chores compared to previous generations. While 89 percent of parents said they did chores around the house as kids, only 76 percent of them say that their own kids do chores today – representing a 13 percent drop. Consumers today have less help too, with one in five respondents (21%) noting that washing the dishes was a shared responsibility when they were growing up, and only seven percent saying that is still true today. And while 55 percent of Americans say their families spend less time doing the dishes today than when they were children, 37 percent say they spend the same or more time.
For families looking to save time and steps in their dishwashing routine, OxiClean™ Extreme Power Crystals™ Dishwasher Detergent comes in an easy-to-pour, easy-to-store bottle or convenient paks, and is available in Lemon Clean and Fresh Clean scents.
