New Road Safety Quiz Reveals Surprising Statistic About Texas Drivers
Created by the Felix Gonzalez Law Firm, P.C., the quiz shows that only 18% of users are able to answer all 15 questions correctly.
SAN ANTONIO, June 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- If you struggle with the rules of the road, you certainly are not alone. In fact, many studies show that more than 50% of people fail their driving test on the very first try. To make matters worse, drivers in Texas rank third in the nation for drunk driving, ninth for speeding, and ninth for fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, according to CarInsuranceComparison.com.
"I've represented many victims whose lives were changed forever at the hands of a careless driver. Poor decisions behind the wheel can lead to lifelong consequences for both parties. Our state certainly has a lot to improve on," stated San Antonio auto accident attorney, Felix Gonzalez.
Recently, the "Lone Star State" made national headlines when the driver of a pickup truck collided with a church minibus in rural Texas, killing 13 people. The driver, Jack Dillon Young, later apologized and acknowledged he had been texting while driving, witnesses stated. Authorities confirm that marijuana and pills were also found in Young's truck. The young man is not only facing criminal charges but also a wrongful death lawsuit.
"This was a horrific accident that didn't have to happen. My heart goes out to the victims and their families," stated Gonzalez. "Texas is one of the few remaining states that still has no statewide ban on texting while driving. In an effort to curb distracted driving before more innocent lives are lost, it may be time to enact one."
To educate drivers on the proper rules of the road as well as the dangers of careless driving, Gonzalez's law firm recently created a road safety quiz. Some of the questions on the quiz include: What's the minimum safe following distance in the city on dry roads? What position should both hands be placed when driving? What percent of a crosswalk should a pedestrian clear before a driver turns near it? Other quiz questions touch on drunk driving, following too closely, speeding, and tire blowouts.
"I hope that the quiz not only makes people better drivers but also safer drivers," stated Gonzalez. "When a person knows better, they often do better. That's why we created this quiz in the first place."
