New Mobile App Hides Swear Words in eBooks

TWIN FALLS, Idaho, March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Now available in the App Store and Google Play, Clean Reader delivers the opportunity of reading any book without being exposed to profanity. By selecting how clean they want their books to appear, readers are presented the content of a book without offensive words and phrases.  To preserve the context of the book, an alternative word with the same general meaning is available for each instance where a word is blocked from display.

Clean Reader is the only e-reader in the world to give readers the option of having profanity automatically removed from the text of a book.  Readers select from three settings (Clean, Cleaner, and Squeaky Clean) to determine how clean they want their book.  Then Clean Reader scans the text of the book and hides offensive words/phrases from display on the screen.  "The idea for Clean Reader started at our dinner table after our daughter's first exposure to books with swear words.  It's taken significant time and effort to take it from an interesting idea to a really fantastic mobile app that we're excited to offer to the world," says Jared Maughan, president of Upstream Media.
