New Markets, Seasons for Fireworks in Texas
Jake's Fireworks Preps for Changes
ATHENS Texas, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyrotechnic fans in Texas have a lot to look forward to in 2016! In previous years, many cities and counties restricted fireworks sales within their jurisdictions. But, with a bill signed last year by Governor Greg Abbott, Texas fireworks retailers are seeing new markets during established sales seasons, superseding many local laws previously in place.
Additionally, new timeframes for celebration have been established. The changes establish four new fireworks holidays in addition to the Fourth of July, Christmas and New Year's Eve/Day. They are:
- Texas Independence Day (March 2)
- San Jacinto Day (April 21)
- Memorial Day (the last Monday in May)
- Cinco de Mayo (May 5) (for locations within 100 miles of the Mexico/Texas border)
Not only is this great for consumers, but it's also a tremendous opportunity for retailers. "With the previous ban on fireworks sales in many communities, the state's new decision to allow sales in expanded areas opens up this business to many entrepreneurs," Brian Hamilton, Regional Sales Director of Jake's Fireworks explained. "As the restrictions are eased locally, the market is open for new stands and retail locations to establish themselves. With additional selling seasons, there is the potential for considerably significant increases in the revenues from fireworks sales in the state of Texas." Nationally, the fireworks industry is worth over $800 million annually.
Hamilton predicts the demand for fireworks will be high in Texas. "We are prepared to meet the demand head-on with quality, value-driven options customers will be chomping at the bit to get," he added. Jake's Fireworks supplies Texas retailers from Athens, Texas, which is one of eight regional warehouse locations operated across the United States.
Disclaimer: Local jurisdictions may have their own statutes that restrict or prohibit fireworks use.
