Not Your Average Fairy Tale
NEW EPIC FANTASY NOVEL WEAVES TALE OF GOOD VS EVIL ... BUT NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED
The laws of nature include Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion which states: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Nowhere is that more evident than in the wilds of Africa where nature is in equal parts beauty and savagery. Hidden behind the spectacular scenery is a world of death, destruction and the endless battle for the survival of the fittest.

Chris Hattingh, author of the new epic fantasy novel The Sword Of Magna, grew up in South Africa where he was indelibly impressed with the good and bad in the balance of life. Like J. R. R. Tolkien, Hattingh was drawn to the mountains of Hog's Back on the Garden Route in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The ancient evergreen forests, rugged mountains, abundant waterfalls and thick morning mists are the perfect backdrop for a fantasy about the people and creatures of Magnatus in The Sword Of Magna as they discover their once peaceful world is about to turn upside down.
The tale takes place during the Second Age of Magnatus when the hero, Chryslan, stumbles upon the golden tip of an ancient sylvanian sword while searching for his incorrigible pet whipple. Meanwhile, two sisters happen upon the hilt of the sword and when both pieces turn up missing, the adventure begins. During the search for his stolen sword tip, Chryslan encounters the orchnids, forest nymphs, daegons, felonians, mirror people, swamp folk, and a fearsome sea serpent. He also falls in love with Heidi, an orchnid girl. Ultimately, however, Chryslan stands alone with the Sword Of Magna when he faces the mighty Ildecor in battle.
In a perfect mix of fantasy, romance and adventure, The Sword Of Magna includes:
. The timeless battle of good vs. evil
. Unrequited love and the sacrifice it sometimes entails
. The ripple effect one small discovery can have on an entire country
. A fascinating cast of characters who embody all-too-human traits
. Sacrificing personal gain for the 'good of the whole'
"Not your classic fairy tale, The Sword Of Magna is a compelling story with believable heroes," says Hattingh, "who reveal their faults and suffer great loss, but do not lose their faith in the innate goodness of people and all that is still good on Magnatus."
Chris Hattingh is an accomplished professional musician who grew up in South Africa, where he was awed and inspired by the beauty of Africa. Today he lives, plays his guitar and writes in Florida.
