New Book Reveals CIA and Nazi Roles in the Rise of Radical Islam in the West
WASHINGTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Wall Street Journal reporter Ian Johnson will discuss his latest book, "A Mosque in Munich: Nazis, the CIA, and the Rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West" at 6:30 pm, May 17, in the Bloomberg Room at the National Press Club, 529 14th Street NW, 13th Floor.

In the wake of the news that 9/11 hijackers had lived in Europe, Johnson wondered how such a radical group could sink roots into Western soil. The result of his research -- including interviewing survivors, scouring archives, and pressuring governments to release sensitive intelligence documents -- is "A Mosque in Munich: Nazis, the CIA, and the Rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West," the extraordinary unknown story of the CIA's collaboration with the Muslim Brotherhood, giving radical Islam its foothold in the West. The book is both a ground-level look at Cold War spying and a revelatory account of the West's first, disastrous encounter with radical Islam.
Johnson, currently based in the Journal's Berlin bureau, is a 2001 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on China. His previous book "Wild Grass" was about life in modern China and published in 2004.
As a fundraiser for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, no outside books will be permitted. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing for $27.
The event is free for Club members, $5 for non-members. Reservations are required at [email protected] or call 202-662-7523.
