Neuro Assessment Systems (NAS) and Mayo Clinic to collaborate on Concussion Assessment Research
NAS and Mayo Clinic have recently completed an agreement related to technology used to monitor changes in CNS function that are associated with concussion.
The agreement includes a sponsored medical research study and intellectual property from Mayo Clinic.
NAS technology provides an objective brain based measure that assesses individual changes over time, providing an indicator of CNS injury and recovery.
DENVER, March 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Neuro Assessment Systems, Inc. has completed development of their NeuroScreen™ system to assess personalized changes in brain health by monitoring central nervous system (CNS) function. These changes may be associated with concussion, traumatic brain injury, aging-related events (stroke, Alzheimer's disease) and the effectiveness of pharmaceutical agents.
The NeuroScreen 24-channel Event Related Potential (ERP) system will be used to record the electrical brain activity of youth athletes as they participate in a cognitive challenge. Essentially, this provides a snapshot of how the brain processes information during the task. Subsequent testing allows NAS to assess changes in the way the brain is processing the same task and can provide critical information to the physicians about injury and recovery.
"We are thrilled to work with Mayo Clinic to study NAS technology as a biomarker of CNS change across a number of disorders and conditions including concussion assessment," says NAS President and CEO Jim Miller.
Providing an objective and brain-based view, NeuroScreen is able to observe multiple brain health issues that were previously undetectable. By combining advanced hardware and software technology, NeuroScreen uses noninvasive electroencephalogram (EEG) measurements to extract event-related potentials (ERPs). These novel ERP measures are obtained by repeatedly stimulating the brain with a specific task and measuring the brain's response to obtain a stable measure.
NAS NeuroScreen is an affordably priced, rapid-result, proprietary hardware and automated software system. Its highly sensitive platform detects individual brain function differences in order to monitor changes in CNS function that are critical to diagnosis and treatment of a variety of troubling brain health issues.
Jim Miller attests, "NeuroScreen has the potential to improve assessment of numerous CNS disorders, allowing treatment to take on new meaning. NAS technology provides a significant value to concussion assessment. Through our agreement with Mayo Clinic, we have begun to explore the full potential of NeuroScreen in concussion assessment."
Mayo Clinic has a financial interest in the technology referenced in this news release.
About Neuro Assessment Systems
Founded in March 2012, Neuro Assessment Systems, Inc. is a Denver-based, neurotechnology company specializing in the development of advanced brain monitoring technology intended to aid in the diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The company's NeuroScreen™ system will be integrated with analysis algorithms to assess changes in brain health by identifying individual changes in central nervous system (CNS) status. Physicians will be able to use the
NeuroScreen system as a tool to help diagnose CNS disorders, in turn, bringing about a new standard of care for the treatment of patients with CNS disorders. For more information, visit http://www.neuroassessments.com.
