Near Seattle Center, Expo Building Features Boutique Restaurants
Puget Sound Oysters, Interactive Asian, New York-style Wine Bar, and Authentic Mexican
SEATTLE, March 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Savvy travelers heading to Seattle this spring and summer should take note that there is a new and eclectic cluster of small independently owned and operated restaurants in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood. Sitting immediately adjacent to the Seattle Center, the restaurants are on the street level of the Expo Building, a new upscale retail and 275-unit residential building.
Currently undergoing a renaissance, the neighborhood is home to some of Seattle's premier iconic attractions—the Space Needle, Key Arena, Chihuly Garden and Glass, Seattle International Film Festival, and Experience Music Project. To date, there are already two restaurants up and running--Triumph Bar and Roaring Bowl. Different in their own rights, each is owned by youthful next generation restaurateurs who harnessed a culinary vision. Triumph Bar, an 80 seat restaurant/bar with a casual atmosphere, offers a full menu, an extensive selection of Italian wines, and an easygoing yet professional ambiance. Co-owner, Jim Marsh, hails from the Pacific Northwest and spent seven years as a sommelier in New York and explains that he wanted to create a wine bar that features all the elements of an upscale restaurant yet isn't stuffy or intimidating. Roaring Bowl, which specializes in interactive Asian cuisine, centers its menu around three main culinary concepts--shabu shabu, robota grill and gamjatang, each of which allows adventurous diners to cook their meal tableside and to their liking.
Later in the spring, Agave, an authentic Mexican restaurant, will open, and in the second half of April, the region's renowned Taylor Shellfish, a fifth generation shellfish farming family, will bring a taste of the regional sea right to the neighborhood. Jeff Pearson, the President of Taylor Shellfish Company states, "We are indeed excited to open a new oyster bar in the EXPO building…we certainly were attracted to the site because of all the activities and restaurants in the area. We're expecting to have 50 seats inside and an additional 50 outside in the summer. With daily deliveries from the farm, shellfish lovers will be able to experience the freshest farm to table oysters, clams, mussels and geoduck."
Tom Graff, President of Ewing and Clark, the commercial real estate company representing EXPO says, "We are really excited to be bringing these savvy restaurateurs into the neighborhood. While so many other buildings rely on national retailers to fill their retail spaces, we are pleased to be bringing local and organic businesses to one of Seattle's most renowned urban destinations."
Expo Building—Located at 118 Republican Street, the Expo Building is a retail and residential building with 275- apartments and 12 retail spaces. Conveniently situated near the Seattle Center, the Space Needle, the Experience Music Project and Chihuly Garden and Glass, the restaurant venues are eclectic culinary destinations highlighting local and regional fare. The building is LEED Gold certified for energy efficiency, with appliances and building strategies that minimize impact on ecosystems and water resources.
