Nautica Signs Artist Lil Yachty To Be A Brand Creative Designer For 2017
NEW YORK, Jan. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Nautica®, the leading global lifestyle brand for reimagined nautical style, announced today a 2017 partnership with GRAMMY® nominated music artist, 19-year-old social media phenom, and Nautica brand enthusiast, Lil Yachty. The name, Lil Yachty, comes from Yachty's group of friends from highschool, called the "Yacht Club", who enjoyed fashion and made music together; it is where his signature nautical theme of boats and anchors, and introduction to Nautica clothing originated. Now, Lil Yachty's group, named "The Sailing Team," attend and perform at most, if not at all of his shows.
As a Nautica brand Creative Designer, Lil Yachty will work with Nautica to design a capsule collection as well as be featured in digital and social media advertising campaigns. The Nautica brand will continue to offer classic sportswear collections in addition to the reintroduction of hertitage styles to serve our existing and new customer base.
Lil Yachty, a self-proclaimed Nautica fanatic, who scours the internet to find one-of-a-kind vintage Nautica pieces, will work with the brand to design a special heritage capsule collection that will incorporate his own personal aesthetic, with some of the brand's most iconic pieces.
"We are excited to be collaborating with Lil Yachty this year," said Karen Murray, President of Nautica. "He is much more than just a music artist, he is a creative soul. His innate passion and affinity for the brand, fabulous taste level and the way he looks in our clothes, make him the perfect partner for the Nautica brand."
"Nautica is like a part of me," said Lil Yachty, "It's for kids, sailors, grown men, and cool people. The designs - the old designs, the new designs, I think it's dope. There's not really much out there like Nautica."
Lil Yachty was recently nominated for a GRAMMY®, named one of Forbes' "30 Under 30" for 2017 and was the cover story for the New York Times Style section last month. He has almost 2 million followers on Instagram, and his videos on YouTube have over 127 million views. D.R.A.M.'s song, "Broccoli" featuring Lil Yachty reached number 1 on the Spotify chart. Lil Yachty's Summer Songs 2 Mixtape debuted #3 on Apple Music Top Album Charts and his first US headlining tour sold out, as well as his first show in London. His reach to the millennial community is vast and growing, and he is often dubbed the "King of the Teens".
