Nationally Recognized Nonprofit "NS2 Serves" Welcomes Third Class of Veterans for Its IT Training and Career Placement Program
Trainees Receive Stipend, World-Class IT Training, and Job Placement Assistance
LEESBURG, Va., March 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As featured on CBS This Morning and Fox and Friends, Maryland-based nonprofit NS2 Serves is changing the lives of veterans for the better. This month, NS2 Serves is welcoming another group of 19 post-9/11 military service veterans to its proven, world-class technology training and employment program.
NS2 Serves is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established by SAP National Security Services, Inc.® (SAP NS2®) to address veterans unemployment and to give back to the community it serves. This intensive, three-month residential course trains competitively selected veterans in the use of SAP software solutions that support a variety of U.S. government and business missions. The full-time veteran trainees also receive a generous stipend and training in public speaking, interview and presentation skills. Almost 40 veterans graduated from the course in 2014, and nearly 100% have embarked in new careers.
Every trainee brings remarkable qualities and personal stories to the effort. Among this session's trainees are:
- Montana Martin — Montana first heard about NS2 Serves while volunteering as a mentor and tutor for the Iraq-Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA). Having served in the Marine Corps infantry for four years and seen combat in Iraq, he worked jobs in construction upon his return to civilian life. "College isn't a golden ticket anymore," he says. "But the more I heard about NS2 Serves, the more I realized it offered true technical training. The emphasis from companies shouldn't be merely on hiring vets, but a training them – giving them the skills to produce for them."
- Scott Hammerl — A Marine Corps sniper for six years, Scott served in Japan, Guam, and Australia. Following his service separation, Scott taught high school English for four years, first in an elite suburban school, and then in a challenged urban one.
- Jeffrey Charles — Following six years in the Army as a combat medic, Jeffrey was working at a call center and studying IT when he enrolled in NS2 Serves.
- Joyce Mayfield — Joyce served in the Army twice, from 1990 to 1994, and from 2008 to 2012. Finding limited career options since her latest transition to civilian life, she was excited to hear about NS2 Serves' robust software training.
Graduates of the program have secured jobs at leading companies and government agencies, including Accenture Federal, CSC, HCL Technologies, SAP National Security Services, SAP America, SRA International, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Graduates earn "Certified SAP Associate" status, a globally recognized certification that is highly valuable in many career paths. Trainees also receive guidance from business mentors and placement assistance for work in the U.S. national security field or elsewhere in SAP's extensive ecosystem.
"I've experienced first-hand how hard it can be for veterans to transition to a new career upon returning home," said NS2 Serves Executive Director Stephen Kupcha, a former Navy SEAL. "This program gives veterans the training necessary to qualify for new careers in the burgeoning software field, and we are very proud of our graduates' successes so far."
