National Competition Awards Three Programs Benefiting Alzheimer's Caregivers

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the ninth consecutive year, organizations with outstanding programs that meet the needs of caregivers for people with Alzheimer's disease have won the Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer's Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards. The winning programs for 2016, selected nationally, each receive $20,000.

The 2016 Awards were announced to the winners and applicants in late December by Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA) and The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation in three categories: Creative Expression, Diverse/Multicultural Communities, and Policy and Advocacy.

"This year's applicants, from over 70 nonprofit organizations, again impressed us with their dedication to inventive and interesting approaches to Alzheimer's disease caregiving. We feel the winning programs are extraordinary and they truly represent the intent of the Awards," said Kathleen Kelly, FCA executive director. 

Representatives of the winning organizations will receive their awards at a reception held during the 2017 Aging in American Conference in Chicago, March 20 to 24. The reception will take place on Wednesday, March 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The reception is open to the public.

Creative Expression

• Scripps Gerontology Center, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio
  Program: Opening Minds through Art (OMA)

Diverse / Multicultural Communities

• Pueblo of Zuni — Zuni Elderly Services, Zuni, New Mexico
  Program: Zuni Adult Day Care

Policy and Advocacy

• Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California
  Program: Dementia Cal MediConnect Project
