National Black Chamber of Commerce Joins Effort in Support of Consumer-friendly Smart Solar Amendment
WASHINGTON, July 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) today announced that it has joined the Consumers for Smart Solar effort in support of the Smart Solar Amendment, a consumer-friendly alternative to the Shady Solar Amendment proposed by Floridians for Solar Choice.
The NBCC, who submitted a brief to the Florida Supreme Court on the determination of Floridians for Solar Choice's proposed ballot title and summary for the 2016 General Election ballot, decried the Shady Solar Amendment as misleading, flying under "false colors" by not disclosing to voters that the amendment would require a restructuring of Florida's framework for regulating electric utilities. "As an advocate of small and minority-owned businesses, the National Black Chamber of Commerce is concerned with the substantial, negative impacts the Shady Solar Amendment may have on small and minority businesses," said Harry C. Alford, President/CEO of NBCC. "These negative impacts – potential increases in electric service rates and higher state and local taxes – are why we oppose the Shady Solar Amendment."
"We are proud to join the Consumers for Smart Solar effort and support their consumer-friendly Smart Solar Amendment," said Alford. "We know this amendment will make solar energy choice a constitutional right for Floridians; but, most importantly, it provides much-needed protections for all Florida consumers and businesses."
