NAPBS 2010 Annual Conference to Feature Douglas Farah
International Security Expert Will Provide Insight at Media Briefing
MORRISVILLE, N.C., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 9, 2010, the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS®) 2010 Annual Conference will include a media briefing with Douglas Farah, a former foreign correspondent with the Washington Post and an international authority on security issues. Mr. Farah is the author of the critically acclaimed "Merchant of Death: Money, Guns, Planes and the Man Who Makes War Possible" and has appeared on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-september-13-2007/douglas-farah?videoId=102765.
The briefing will begin at 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room 12 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter. Mr. Farah will provide insight on the changing profile of terrorism, the emerging ties between transnational criminal organizations and terrorist groups and the implications for those guarding U.S. borders, and how the terrorist acts of September 11 have resulted in heightened security and identity-verification strategies by employers and proprietors.
"Transnational criminal and terrorist organizations are constantly looking for new ways to hide their identities and the true nature of their activities, and protecting lives, property and the country needs to be a constantly-evolving as well," said Douglas Farah. "We are seeing a growing criminal-terrorist nexus that is posing a host of new challenges to our national security, and these challenges will increasingly be felt in the state and local workplaces. It is critically important that we understand how these groups operate, what they seek and the threat they pose if we are to be able to screen them out and lessen their effectiveness."
Following Mr. Farah's talk, there will be an update on the results of the annual NAPBS legislative meetings with the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Trade Commission and the EEOC.
"NAPBS supports the professional background screening industry by providing guidelines to promote ethical business practices, compliance and awareness of consumer protection and privacy rights," said Tracy Seabrook, CAE, executive director of NAPBS. "We are proud to have an expert like Douglas Farah at our conference and look forward to his insight on how background screening of employees and tenants can improve security on a larger scale."
The conference opened on Sunday, March 7 and will run through Tuesday, March 9. A wide array of vendor exhibits and educational programs highlight the event. A full conference schedule and session details are available on the NAPBS website at http://www.napbs.com. Additional information on Douglas Farah can be found at http;//www.douglasfarah.com
