Munck Carter Name Partner E. Leon Carter Receives MLK Justice Award
DALLAS, Jan. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- E. Leon Carter, name partner at the Dallas-based law firm Munck Carter, LLP, has been selected to receive the Dallas Bar Association's 2011 Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award. Mr. Carter will receive the award at the DBA's annual MLK Luncheon today, Monday, January 17, 2011.
The Justice Award is presented annually to a Dallas Bar member or community leader whose practice, community service, and overall life experience exemplify the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The recognition is well-deserved, says Munck Carter Managing Partner William Munck.
"While Leon receives many acknowledgements for his professional accomplishments and for his selfless community service, the Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Award is special because the basis for this award reflects some of what is best about Leon," Mr. Munck says. "This award not only recognizes Leon's commitment to the Dallas community, but more specifically, his tireless efforts to push those around him to be their best, to promote equity, and balance inequalities. That seems a pretty accurate description of our friend."
Past recipients of the Justice Award include U.S. Trade Representative and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, Dallas lawyer Kim Askew, State Sen. Royce West, U.S. District Judge Barefoot Sanders, noted criminal defense lawyer Cheryl Wattley, Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, and lawyer and civil rights activist Adelfa Callejo.
Mr. Carter serves on the firm's Executive Committee and practices in its Litigation section. With more than 20 years of trial and litigation experience, Mr. Carter has received numerous recognitions for his legal work. He has been named one of the Top 15 Business-Defense Lawyers in the D-FW Metroplex by the Dallas Business Journal, and he is regularly selected to the list of Texas Super Lawyers. In 2010, he was honored among the Texas Super Lawyers list of the Top 100 Lawyers in Texas and Top 100 Lawyers in the Dallas Fort-Worth region.
Mr. Carter has taken on leadership roles at several Dallas-area charitable and civic organizations, including Camp John Marc, Vickery Meadows Learning Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Leadership Dallas, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, and the Volunteer Center of Dallas County.
