Mu Dynamics Joins Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle Pro Network
Mu Test Suite Accelerates Release Cycles, Improves Product Security, Reduces Mean Time to Repair for Field Issues
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mu Dynamics, Inc. (www.mudynamics.com), the leader in IP services testing, today announced that it has joined the Microsoft Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) Pro Network. Since 2008, the member companies of the SDL Pro Network have provided services that span the entire development lifecycle to help software development organizations make security and privacy an integral part of how software is developed. As a member of the SDL Pro Network, Mu Dynamics offers the Mu Test Suite, which can help fulfill the verification and release phase requirements of the SDL. The Mu Test Suite enables developers and testers to accelerate the time-to-market for new services by an order of magnitude, while simultaneously increasing the quality of the end product.
Software developers and testers of new converged IP applications and services face myriad challenges including staying on top of a constant stream of new vulnerabilities and patches. Doing so using traditional testing methodologies is almost impossible, since most solutions are unable to account for the ever-evolving security vulnerabilities. Mu's adaptive testing approach uses service traffic from a customer's environment as the basis for the testing solution. This enables rapid generation of test cases that accurately and thoroughly test the customer's services – both the application and the infrastructure – as a single system. Mu's approach accelerates the testing process and enables testers to make better readiness decisions.
"The primary goal of the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) is to protect end-users," said David Ladd, principal security program manager at Microsoft. "The SDL Pro Network is comprised of organizations with expertise across the entire software development lifecycle from training and requirements to response execution. We are pleased to add Mu Dynamics to the SDL Pro Network to help development organizations bolster the verification and release phases of the SDL; which in turn helps testers accelerate time to market and increase the quality and safety of the final product."
The Mu Test Suite helps test organizations implement SDL in the following ways by providing:
- Custom fuzz testing for any service or protocol: By automatically generating fuzzing test suites using customer traffic, Mu makes it possible for customers to incorporate advanced security testing methods into the development process without having to hire expensive security experts.
- Fuzz testing suites for widely deployed IP services: The Mu Protocol Fuzzing Module provides standards-based protocol fuzzing with coverage for over 60 protocols.
- Remediation toolkits: A set of self-contained assets including packet captures, test documentation and a standalone Linux executable allow developers to quickly replicate and remediate issues.
- Customized security tests: Test teams can quickly create additional custom security test cases using multiple different approaches – combinations of expected and unexpected input to generate expected and unexpected responses from systems and application Denial of Service (DoS) testing.
- Rapid field issue resolution: Finally, for any incident found in the field, the Mu solution helps reduce the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) as test teams can now quickly identify customer issues using freely available xtractr (http://www.pcapr.net/xtractr) and then re-create and verify the issue using the Mu Solution. xtractr is a hybrid cloud application for indexing, searching, reporting, extracting and collaborating on pcaps and available on pcapr, http://www.pcapr.net, a cloud-based crowd sourced packet repository community that allows people to contribute, collaborate and share their knowledge on communication protocols and exchanges.
"We are excited to join the Microsoft SDL Pro Network and are committed to providing testers with the tools they need to quickly develop secure and resilient software," said Ajit Sancheti, co-founder, vice president business development at Mu Dynamics. "Testers have the enormous task of testing against the latest security and privacy requirements, and with additional complexity introduced by converged IP software and infrastructure. With the Mu Test Suite, testers can easily automate the creation and execution of accurate test scenarios based on actual communication interactions to produce a solid, 'bullet-proof' product."
