Mondre Energy, Inc. Lowers Electricity Costs for Diocese of Scranton
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Mondre Energy, Inc. (MEI), a leading energy strategies firm based in Philadelphia, will save the Diocese of Scranton on average more than 14 percent in electricity costs over the next two years. The savings cover approximately 240 separate electricity accounts in Diocesan churches, rectories, schools, convents, and other facilities. Savings for the Diocese's GS1 category accounts will exceed 19 percent.
"Electricity costs are a significant budget item for any diocese, especially one like Scranton with many older facilities," said Robert Miller, chief financial officer for the Diocese of Scranton. "Mondre Energy has provided us with a skill set and experience in energy management that we estimate will lower our electricity costs by $275,000. Working with MEI saves us money and allows the Diocese to focus more on its core mission."
The Diocese of Scranton is located within the PPL electric utility service area. The removal of electricity rate caps for PPL at the beginning of 2010 allows institutional and residential customers in the area to purchase electricity from competing third-party suppliers. With an extensive background in energy procurement, Mondre Energy analyzed the Diocese's historic usage patterns and negotiated a two-year contract for electricity that, on average, lowers the Diocese's electricity rates by 14.1 percent.
The procurement of electricity is just one strategy Mondre Energy has used to help the Diocese understand and manage its energy costs. A recent audit of a sample of Diocesan buildings by MEI identified a number of additional steps the Diocese can take to reduce electricity consumption.
"Aggressive procurement strategies can significantly lower electricity costs for institutional users," said Judith Mondre, founder and president of Mondre Energy. "Electricity rate caps will expire throughout Pennsylvania by next year. We are encouraging our clients to begin planning now so they can take full advantage of all saving opportunities."
