KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii, May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mokulele Airlines has announced that plans are well underway to begin air service at Kalaeloa Airport on west Oahu this summer. Kalaeloa is located at the former Barber's Point Naval Air Base John Rogers Field. Mokulele is working in cooperation with the state of Hawaii Department of Transportation Airports Division to target a start date of July 1, at which time Mokulele would begin offering three daily roundtrip flights between Kalaeloa (JRF) and Kahului, Maui (OGG).
In addition to completing the construction projects and other preparations required to open the new airport, Mokulele is currently working on flight scheduling and staffing. The opening of the airport for commercial traffic will initially create 6-10 new positions for customer service agents, ramp agents, mechanics, pilots and management personnel. The airport's west Oahu location would make these positions ideal for residents of the Kapolei and Ewa Beach areas.
Mokulele's new service from Kalaeloa will make air travel to and from Maui more convenient for residents of West Oahu as well as for those visiting the resorts and attractions in the island's southwest region. When the new service begins, Kalaeloa will become the ninth airport Mokulele serves. As with most of the other airports Mokulele serves, parking is available and passengers will save time by not being required to go through TSA screenings.
Special introductory airfares for Kalaeloa fares will start at $69 one way including taxes and fees. For Mokulele's current schedule, visit www.mokuleleairlines.com.
