Mike Majors Joins VC Firm Data Point Capital
Track Record Of Success As An Investor And Operator Creates A Great Fit With The Firm
BOSTON, March 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Point Capital, a Boston-based venture capital firm focused on funding companies that can be leveraged and scaled on the internet, today announced that Mike Majors has joined the firm as its newest Managing Partner. Majors' venture career started at Brand Equity Ventures, where he focused on software, digital media and consumer internet investments with a portfolio that included MaxPreps (acquired by CBS) and Retail Solutions (acquired by VeriSign). He was then CFO of adtech company Visible World (acquired by Comcast) and leading job board Indeed (acquired by Recruit). Most recently, and up until joining Data Point, Mike was founder and head of Siemens Venture Capital's $100 million early-stage Industry of the Future Fund. At Siemens, Mike invested in 12 companies, including software companies Wurldtech (acquired by GE), Lagoa (acquired by AutoDesk), Polarion (acquired by Siemens), LogRhythm, Black Duck and Digital Guardian.
"I could not be happier to have Mike join our group," said Scott Savitz, Managing Partner and founder of Data Point Capital. "His career track record as an investor and as an operator is top notch. It will be wonderful to work alongside someone who is not only so highly regarded by the investment community, but is seen as such a terrific partner by the founders he has invested in."
"I am thrilled to join Scott as well as bring my expertise to Data Point's emerging software practice," said Majors. "Data Point's analytical and metrics-based approach to investing mirrors my own, and I look forward to adding to Data Point's existing portfolio of early winners and category leaders."
Majors joins a group of other successful entrepreneurs and business executives at Data Point that have created over $12 billion in value through companies they either founded or ran in just New England alone. They include Lars Albright (Co-Founder Quattro Wireless), Colin Angle (Co-Founder iRobot), Fred Bertino (Co-Founder MMB and former President and Chief Creative Officer Hill, Holliday), Desh Deshpande (Co-Founder Cascade and Sycamore Networks), Diane Hessan (CEO of Startup Institute and Co-Founder Communispace), John Giuliani (CEO of Dotomi and CEO of Conversant), Steve Papa (Co-Founder Endeca), Alan Phillips (Co-Founder Where.com), Jim Salzano (CEO of Easy Spirit and President of Clarks), and Len Schlesinger (Former Vice Chairman, COO Limited Brands/Victoria Secret).
According to Diane Hessan, "Mike brings a wonderful understanding of technology and SaaS companies, as well as an incredibly consistent track record of investing and achieving great success. He is also described by those who know him as one of the hardest workers and most likable people you will ever meet. This is very complementary to the DNA of Data Point Capital, which has brought together a series of special individuals who love to win together. Mike's ability to create value will surely have an amazing impact on what is already a lot of success being enjoyed by the firm."
