WARREN, Mich., March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Being green has become a standard of good business strategy in Michigan and the companies that have demonstrated the sharpest focus on inspiring sustainability and showing leadership in Green initiatives will be among the first to be named a 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies™.
The 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies awards program honors companies from all industries that are focused on being more sustainable, improving the lives of their employees and are committed to the local and global environments. The winning companies will be honored at a symposium and awards celebration on April 18, 2012 at Davenport University in Grand Rapids. (See following list of winners.)
Winning companies were evaluated and scored by an independent research firm in the following categories: Education, Communication, Strategic Planning & Operational Implementation, Innovation & Problem Solving, Building & Grounds, Community Leadership, Workforce and Financial Performance. Each company's entry is evaluated based on a point system; those receiving the highest points in relation to the company's sustainable initiatives category are selected as the winners.
This educational symposium and awards gala will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will feature networking and panel discussions on "Sustainability Strategies as Drivers of Innovation," "High-Profit Supply Chains," "The Many Business Opportunities of Waste " and "Engaging Stakeholders."
Keynote speaker Fred Keller, founder and CEO of Cascade Engineering, will present "Doing Good While Making IT Good Business – Certified B Corp vs. Benefit Corporation." Steve Kelly of Wood Radio will host the luncheon and awards ceremony that starts at 11:15 a.m. Elite winners for each category will also be announced at the close of the event.
