GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), a tuition-free, online public charter school authorized by Grand Valley State University, welcomes new and returning students for the 2015-2016 academic year, which begins on September 8. Now entering its 6th year of serving students across the state of Michigan, MVCA combines online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of Michigan-licensed teachers to offer each student an individualized education.
MVCA families are invited to attend back-to-school events being held in Lansing and Grand Rapids during the week of September 7. Families who are interested in the program, but are not yet enrolled, are invited to attend and learn more from MVCA teachers, students and parents. There will also be a number of information sessions – both in-person and online – held throughout September. Details can be found at http://mvca.k12.com.
"In June, MVCA graduated its largest class to date, and our community of students, families and alumni continues to grow across Michigan," said Jean Broadwater, Head of School at Michigan Virtual Charter Academy. "Not every student learns in the same way, and by recognizing those differences, MVCA is able to help learners of all different speeds, backgrounds and ability levels."
Students who enroll in MVCA benefit from a rigorous and engaging curriculum, designed to let them discover the learning style that works best for them. The program offers advanced learners the ability to progress faster in subjects in which they excel, as well as opportunities for advancement in STEM education.
This year, MVCA will launch a Family Academic Support Team (FAST) to bring a holistic approach to supporting each student's educational progress. FAST staff members and teachers will work together to meet the needs of the student and family, including helping students work through non-academic issues that may be affecting their performance in school.
MVCA provides courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students. At MVCA, college- or career-minded students can choose from a broad range of profession-focused courses in order to gain a competitive edge for the future, discover their path after high school or explore a possible college major.
More information on the school, upcoming events and how to apply can be found online here: http://mvca.k12.com.
