Fan film shooting in Jackson and Detroit builds on iconic sci-fi series.

In just 32 hours, the campaign earned an impressive $10,000 toward making the ambitious project a reality. The Kickstarter campaign runs through May 19, while the completed film is expected to premiere by the end of 2014.

Starring Paul Lang (Captain Harrison Hawke), Marc Bowers (Commander Jackson Gates), Ryan Webber (Commander Francis Brookes), and Callie Bussell (Lieutenant T'mar), Horizon follows Captain Harrison Hawke and the crew of the Earth vessel NX-04 Discovery. In 2160, the Coalition of Planets, a young alliance of worlds led by Earth, is at war with the Romulan Empire. Desperate for a chance to gain the upper hand in the war, the Coalition forms an alliance with T'mar, a Romulan defector, in the hope that she can provide valuable intelligence on her former masters.
From the film's Kickstarter page: "It is our goal to create a film that is worthy of the franchise and can close out the story threads left hanging after the untimely cancellation of Enterprise (the final Trek TV series) in 2005. However, if you have not seen any of the previous franchise films or TV series, this close tie to Enterprise is not cause to worry. While this film will close out story threads that began in that series, it will also certainly tell an original story and be able to stand alone as a science fiction feature film.
"Filmmaker Tommy Kraft, the prodigious 22-year-old Albion College graduate behind Horizon , hails from Spring Arbor, a small town just southwest of Jackson, Michigan. He founded Project [N] ReSource, a production company behind numerous short films, in 2005. Kraft cut his filmmaking teeth on those short films, he says, and they prepared him for the challenges of making his first independent feature. With Horizon, he has taken on a subject grand in its scope and execution, yet extremely close to his heart. Of the project, Kraft says he intends "only to use my skills to show my love for a franchise that has been an endless source of inspiration for me, not only professionally but personally as well."
