Michelle Munson, CEO of Aspera, an IBM Company, to Keynote 8th Annual Women Tech Awards
Women Tech Awards to recognize 17 finalists and 3 college finalists
SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Women Tech Council is pleased to announce that Michelle Munson, CEO of Aspera, will address the 8th annual Women Tech Awards. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 22 at the Grand America Hotel, Salt Lake City.
Michelle is a great example for women in tech. She co-founded Aspera, invented the technology, led the company to a successful acquisition by IBM, and continues to innovate and lead the Aspera business unit within IBM. Munson will keynote this year's awards and help recognize this year's Women Tech Award finalists and recipients.

Michelle is co-inventor of Aspera's FASP® high-speed transport technology and is responsible for overseeing the company's direction in collaboration with co-founder Serban Simu. Michelle was a software engineer in research and start-up companies including the IBM Almaden Research Center before founding Aspera in 2004. She has dual B.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and in Physics from Kansas State University and was a Goldwater Scholar for achievement in Science and Mathematics, and later a Fulbright Scholar at Cambridge University where she received a postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science. She was the 2006 KSU College of Engineering Alumni Fellow (the youngest recipient ever), and has received national achievement awards from Glamour Magazine and USA Today. Michelle is also a frequent speaker on technologies and trends around big data transport, cloud infrastructure, and mobile.
Women Tech Awards
Over the past seven years, WTC has been able to honor 110 women, 20 university students, and sponsored over 250 high school students for the awards, helping to inspire the next generation of STEM-focused students.
