Mercury Solar Systems Partners with PSE&G and Newark Public Schools to Install 1.2MW Rooftop and Carport Systems
NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercury Solar Systems, Inc., one of the top solar integrators on the East Coast and Inc500's "10th Fastest Growing Energy Company", has installed solar systems totaling 1.2 megawatts (MW) on two public schools in Newark, NJ. The project, which consists of rooftop and carport systems, is part of PSE&G's Solar 4 All™ program and a five school solar pilot program initiated by the Newark Public Schools Facilities Management Office.
"Mercury Solar Systems is committed to helping New Jersey accelerate the adoption of solar energy and we were honored to be selected for this groundbreaking project," commented Frank Alfano, CEO, Mercury Solar Systems. "We commend PSE&G and Newark Public Schools for pushing this initiative forward as it will have a significant impact on the local community that these children live and attend school in."
A 646 kilowatt (kW) rooftop system consisting of 2,310 panels was installed at Barringer High School and was the first to be completed in the Newark Public Schools project. As part of Mercury Solar Systems' work, rooftop and carport systems totaling 519kW were also installed at Park Elementary School. The energy generated from these 1,704 panels at Park Elementary is equivalent to recycling over 10 million cans of soda and taking 65 cars off the road every year. In total, the 1.2 MW of solar capacity at the two schools is enough to power about 200 average size homes.
"Realizing all of our Solar 4 All program goals will require a great deal of hard work and strong partnerships," said Al Matos, Vice President of Renewables and Energy Solutions, PSE&G. "I'm happy to say that the Mercury Solar Systems' work on the Newark Public Schools solar project helped to bring us one step closer to realizing the ultimate target of installing 80 megawatts of solar capacity under this program."
"Mercury Solar Systems worked with our team through every step of the process resulting in an extremely smooth installation at both locations. I believe their team has the knowledge and experience needed to carry out large scale utility installations," said Rodney L. Williams, Facilities Manager, Newark Public Schools.
