MDU Resources Subsidiary Sells Large Nevada Community Solar Project

BISMARCK, N.D., Jan. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- MDU Resources Group, Inc. (NYSE: MDU) announced today that subsidiary MDU Construction Services Group Inc. recently sold its membership interests in Nevada Valley Solar Solutions II LLC to an affiliate of ORIX USA. Financial details of the sale were not disclosed.

MDU Construction Services Group and Valley Electric Association, a member-owned electric cooperative, developed the 17.5-megawatt VEA Community Solar Project, which is one of the largest community solar projects in the U.S.

Bombard Renewable Energy, an indirect subsidiary of MDU Construction Services Group, provided turnkey engineering, procurement and construction, installing more than 51,400 solar photovoltaic panels on an 80-acre site. The solar facility, recently named one of Solar Builder Magazine's Editor's Choice projects of the year, will supply electricity to VEA members.

"The VEA Community Solar Project was an integral part of the 300 megawatts of solar construction services that Bombard provided last year," said Bill Connors, vice president of renewable resources. "We continue to pursue additional solar construction opportunities of utility-scale, commercial and industrial, and residential projects throughout the United States."

Bombard and Valley Electric Association worked closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect Mojave Desert tortoises at the project site.

"The unique design and construction elements we used minimized the impact to the environment during construction and will allow the site to be an active desert tortoise habitat during operation," said Bombard Solar Division Manager Bo Balzar said. "This project represents a great balance between renewable energy construction, the community and the environment."
