TOKYO, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- MCCI® Corporation, the world's leading developer of Universal Serial Bus (USB) software technology for consumer products, today announced that KDDI, a leading mobile network operator in Japan, is deploying MCCI USB host drivers in its next-generation set-top box.

KDDI's HD-STB, a convergence set-top box that offers a "PC-free" connection to KDDI's fiber-optic based IP TV network, includes MCCI's Linux-based driver functionality. Music and video programs purchased via the HD-STB can be downloaded and transferred to au handsets for mobile listening or viewing. KDDI selected MCCI to provision the USB connectivity for these state-of-the-art set-top boxes, enabling the HD-STB's attractive and reliable services.
"A set-top box such as the HD-STB is quite a challenge for developers, due to the complexity and number of features that KDDI wanted to bring to consumers," said Terry Moore, CEO of MCCI. "It's necessary to have a partner like MCCI with years of systems development and integration experience to solve the complex issues and bring the HD-STB to market."
MCCI, who has delivered 700 million embedded and host-side drivers for consumer products, earlier provided host drivers for the successful deployment of KDDI's au BOX. Previous cooperation activities between KDDI and MCCI include the development of the USB connectivity specification and the development of connectivity test tools for the au mobile network.
