HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayor Eric Papenfuse will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 across from Arooga's Restaurant, 201 N. Second St., to announce the launch of a new mobile payment system for parking in the City of Harrisburg.
The Mayor will be joined by Neil Edwards, president of Pango, the mobile parking system that will allow drivers to use their mobile phones to pay for parking, remember where they parked their car, and get parking coupons from local businesses.
"This is really an exciting development for the City of Harrisburg," said Mayor Papenfuse. "Pango will make parking convenient and easy and encourage people to come and enjoy our beautiful city."
In addition to the Tuesday press conference, Pango will host another event from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Arooga's to explain the service and encourage drivers to sign up.
To use the service, drivers sign up by going to the www.myPango.com or the ParkHarrisburg.com websites, downloading the Pango app available for iOS, Android, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices or by calling 1-800-myPango (1-877-697-2646).
Drivers need their personal information and a method of payment. Clearly marked signs and decals around the city provide directions on how to park with Pango. Drivers can still pay with coins using the parking meters, if they do not want to pay by phone.
"The City of Harrisburg is now one of the easiest and most convenient parking systems to use in the state of Pennsylvania," said Edwards. "The city, local businesses, and drivers all benefit from this positive change provided by the Pango smart parking system. We are pleased to partner with the SP+ Municipal Services and the City of Harrisburg."
Harrisburg has more than 1,250 on street metered spaces, ten garages, and five surface lots, which are managed by SP+ Municipal Services. SP+ Municipal Services is cooperating with the city and Pango to encourage drivers to take advantage of this new way to pay for parking, said Jon Kemp, Regional Manager, of SP+ Municipal Services.
Headquartered in New York City and Israel, Pango is available in 60 cities around the world and used by more than more than 1 million active accounts. In the United States, Pango is available in New York City; Auburn, NY; Butler, Latrobe, Pittston and Scranton, PA; Phoenix, AZ, and Alexandria, VA.
Considered the company that invented the science behind the first pay-by-phone parking app, Pango was awarded US Patent (5,940,481) in 1997. Pango is one of the only companies in the world to provide on street, gated, valet, event, electronic permits, and fleet-based parking services through an app.
