Godfrey has spent the past four years as CEO and COO of Publicis Asia, where he was responsible for building a strong creative agency, advancing their digital platform, and winning significant new business. In 2009, he was a Media Magazine finalist for Asian CEO of the Year, as well as Marketing's Agency Professional of the Year, while Publicis Asia was the runner up for Asian Creative Agency of the Year and a Finalist for Asian Network of the Year. He has built his 21-year career in the industry entirely in the Asia Pacific region, beginning at George Patterson Bates in Sydney.
On completing his role at Young & Rubicam, Brahmachary said, "I leave here with the satisfaction and pride of having had the opportunity to greatly strengthen the agencies in the region, and with confidence that this terrific regional network will continue on their path to new successes."
"Over the past few years, Ambar has done a fantastic job, building and updating our talent across Asia. Thanks to his efforts and leadership, all our markets have a strong base of creative, digital, strategic and account leadership," stated Hamish McLennan, Chairman and CEO of Young & Rubicam.
"Matt's now the perfect person to lead us forward. We came up in the business together at George Patterson in Sydney, and he has always been a change agent — a dynamic and charismatic leader, a true champion of great creative, an innovative thinker. Matt is always several steps ahead of everyone in anticipating what clients need. People love to work with him — on both the agency and client sides — because he brings out the best in everyone. The people feel it. The work feels it. He makes things happen," he stated.
"Young & Rubicam has been interesting to watch these past few years as Hamish has reinvented the agency's model for today's challenges. Young & Rubicam has great brands and some of the smartest and most innovative people in the business. I'm very excited about the future and delighted to work with Hamish again," said Matthew Godfrey.
Godfrey began his career at George Patterson Bates Sydney in 1989. He was General Manager of both Bates Indochina and Singapore, before being named CEO of Bates Singapore and Director of SE Asia in 2000. In 2003 he was named Chief Operating Officer for the Bates Asia Group, where he remained until he joined Publicis in 2006.
