Matrix Realty Group Saves $1,300,000 by Switching Cleaning Contractors and Suffers Continued Harassment From Local 32BJ
SMITHTOWN, N.Y., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Matrix Realty Group, a leading national real estate investment firm, today announced that Glen Nelson, the company's chairman and CEO, has reached a settlement agreement with Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ regarding a dispute before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) that concerns Matrix Corporate Center, the company's flagship property in Danbury, Connecticut.
Mr. Nelson settled without admitting any wrongdoing and categorically denies that he made any of the alleged statements. The case was settled in an effort to avoid a long and costly legal battle over he-said-she-said nonsense. Mr. Nelson maintains that the individuals who filed the claim misunderstood his comment that "the current contractor isn't going anywhere because he is doing a better job and because he is killing you on pricing — to the tune of $1.3 million per year."
"Local 32BJ claims to have a dispute with our cleaning contractor," Mr. Nelson said. "Our contractor does a better job at a better price — that is what is important to us. We run a first-class building with first-class tenants and can only have first-class service. We will not let 32BJ use bad publicity and intimidation to scare us into firing our contractor and their hard-working employees."
Matrix Realty Group is struggling to overcome the economic environment that is impacting our entire country. By changing contractors, Matrix has saved over $1.3 million annually and has invested that money directly into the rehabilitation of Matrix Corporate Center which is bringing new business and investment to the Danbury area.
Matrix has executed a spectacular renovation which is leaving visitors speechless and will ultimately bring several thousand new jobs to Danbury. "We have a moral and financial obligation to deliver the best service at the best price to our first-class tenants and their employees — that is the American way. We hope to continue to expand this business model to other buildings in Connecticut that suffer from bloated expenses and poor service," Mr. Nelson said.
Matrix uses both union and non-union contractors throughout its operations. At the end of the day, every decision is based purely on economics. According to Mr. Nelson, "We have a better contractor doing better work at a better price — you better believe we will continue to resist strong-arming and intimidation tactics."
