Matheson Trucking, Inc. Receives USPS Supplier Sustainability Excellence Award For its Performance and Superior Customer Service During 2016
SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Matheson Trucking, Inc. has been named as a winner in the United States Postal Service's Supplier Sustainability Excellence Award category, which is part of USPS's annual Supplier Performance Award program.
In a letter announcing Matheson's selection, Postmaster General and CEO Megan J. Brennan said, "Your company was selected for recognition because of its high level of performance in supporting the Postal Service during 2016. Your commitment to excellence was instrumental in helping us deliver superior service to our customers and achieve our mission of providing universal mail service to the American public. Your selection was endorsed by the Postal Service's staff who have worked directly with your organization and who know firsthand about your outstanding performance."
Putting this award into a broader context, a USPS spokesperson said that during fiscal year 2016, the Postal Service spent over $11.9 billion for transportation, supplies, services, facilities and equipment with a supplier base that included nearly 17,000 companies. Matheson Trucking, Inc. is one of only 12 companies being recognized this year.
Supplier Sustainability Excellence Awards were presented to recipients by Susan M. Brownell, vice president, Supply Management; and Kristin A. Seaver, chief information officer and executive vice president with the U.S. Postal Service.
"This is indeed a great honor and evidence of how much we appreciate and value our long standing relationship with USPS that began 43 years ago," said CEO Mark Matheson. "It takes a concerted team effort among those in multiple departments pulling together to promote our sustainability goals. Our firm is dedicated to a policy of increasing the use of clean energy fuels to improve air quality, decrease diesel fuel consumption and reliance on foreign oil, while helping to preserve our environment."
This year Matheson added 27 new CNG tractors and 12 more will be ordered this fall bringing the company's total number of natural gas-powered CNG/LNG vehicles to 64 -- or 23% of its fleet. The company deploys natural gas-powered tractors on all of its USPS routes. Collectively, these tractors will replace more than 780,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year.
Upon returning from the June 14 USPS award ceremony in Washington, D.C., Chief Operating Officer Charles Mellor said, "Speaking for our entire management team, we want to extend our personal thanks to all employees for their performance and cooperative business relationship with the Postal Service this past year. Everyone at Matheson should take great pride in knowing the important role they have played in helping to keep our postal system the best in the world."
