Massey Energy Statement on Delayed UBB Mine Reentry #3

JULIAN, W.Va., June 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Massey Energy Company (NYSE: MEE) today released the following statement announcing the tentatively re-scheduled reentry of Massey Energy, Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) and West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training officials into the Upper Big Branch (UBB) Mine from Friday, June 4th to the week of June 7th:

"Due to delays associated with borehole drilling, the investigator teams are tentatively postponing their reentry into the Upper Big Branch (UBB) Mine until the week of June 7, 2010. Once borehole activities have progressed, methane readings are at more secure levels and the overall safety of mine investigators is ensured, the teams will implement their reentry plan.
Massey Energy will continue to provide updates on the Massey Energy UBB website (www.MasseyUBB.com) as information becomes available. Additional updates are not expected before Monday, June 7th."
