Marubeni Sustainable Energy Engages Headwaters MB for Financial Sale Advisory
SAN DIEGO, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Marubeni Sustainable Energy, Inc. (MSEI) has recently initiated a process to explore a sale of the company. MSEI has selected Headwaters MB as its exclusive placement advisor for the transaction.
MSEI's majority shareholder, Marubeni Corporation of Tokyo, had during 2009 conducted an exploratory process to locate joint venture or other partners without the full concurrence of MSEI's board of directors, and subsequent events including improvement in market conditions and sales of non-core assets have now brought board unanimity to the Headwaters process.
MSEI is an experienced developer, owner and operator of renewable biomass electric generating and efficient cogeneration plants and other renewable and traditional generation technologies. The current asset portfolio includes three operating biomass plants and one cogeneration facility totaling 68MW.
MSEI staff collectively has made significant improvements in the overall operations and reliability of its plants and continues to support and improve the long term operations of each of its assets for maximum production of renewable and efficient energy generation. "2009 brought about the culmination of our uprate and efficiency programs for our New Hampshire and California biomass plants. This resulted in a 2 megawatt uprate for each of our New Hampshire projects which increased each plant's gross capacity rating to over 18 megawatts. At our California biomass plant, we have been able to increase our plant efficiency through boiler and steam turbine modifications to gain nearly a 10% overall efficiency improvement. This effort was accomplished by our dedicated professional team together with our experienced plant staff personnel. As the United States continues to focus on its expanding Renewable Energy programs, we are excited that our biomass plants are positioned to have an important role in the success of this vital focus," says Terry Williams, President and CEO of MSEI.
