Manhattan Beach's Local Restaurant Sashi and Hermosa Beach's Sangria Team Up With The Samburu Project for the 1st Annual Walk4Water
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Did you know that 4,500 children die each day due to lack of clean safe drinking water worldwide? Did you know that for just $13, you could provide clean, safe drinking water for one person for life?
On Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 8:00 am - 11:00 am, the South Bay community will come together to support The Samburu Project with its 1st Annual Walk4Water event. The walk will take place along a 4-mile loop from Hermosa Beach Pier to Manhattan Beach Pier and back, beginning and ending at Sangria Restaurant, located at 68 Pier Avenue, Hermosa Beach. Walk4Water, sponsored by Sashi, Sangria, H20M Water and Mighty Fine T-Shirts, will help raise money to provide clean, safe drinking water to the Samburu community in Kenya. Participants will receive pledges from as many supporters as possible and walk 4 miles total on the day of the event. A free t-shirt is included with the $26 registration fee and a post-walk celebration will be held at Sangria Restaurant. Prizes will be awarded for the most pledges raised and the first to cross the finish line.
The Samburu Project is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 that collaborates with communities in developing countries to enhance men, women and children's daily lives by providing resources that address immediate needs while promoting long-term sustainability and self-sufficiency along with cultural integrity. The Samburu Project's first initiative, 25 Wells, is aimed at bringing easy access to clean, safe drinking water to communities in Samburu District, Kenya. With water as a baseline, TSP impacts other aspects of community life including education, healthcare, income generation and women's empowerment. Since 2006, The Samburu Project has drilled 22 wells, bringing clean, safe drinking water to more than 20,000 people.
