Malcolm Pirnie Helps Clients Nationwide Utilize Stimulus Funds

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the February 2009 signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) many communities have taken advantage of the available funding to implement infrastructure projects.  National environmental engineering and consulting firm Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. has been a critical link for clients in helping them quickly utilize the stimulus monies to execute crucial programs and projects.

The City of Lorain, Ohio received $5,000,000 of Green Infrastructure funding through Ohio EPA for the first phase of the Black River Ecological Restoration project.  This is part of a larger project to remediate over 300 acres of a former steel mill site along the Black River, which is tributary to Lake Erie.  Malcolm Pirnie provided design services for the project and assisted the City of Lorain with preparation and submittal of the successful loan/grant application.

Pirnie was also instrumental in helping New Kent County, Virginia to implement a series of water reuse projects using $3,917,753 of Green Infrastructure funding awarded through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's (VDEQ's) Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund. Malcolm Pirnie provided design and construction administration services and assisted New Kent County in developing its application for the funding.  As part of the County's efforts to reduce nutrient discharges to the Chesapeake Bay watershed and meet the goals of the VDEQ's Chesapeake Bay Program, the funds were targeted to the construction of an 11 mile reclaimed water transmission force main and upgrades to an existing reuse water treatment and distribution system to comply with Virginia's recently adopted water reclamation and reuse regulation.  

Malcolm Pirnie is also providing design and construction administration services to the City of Goodyear, AZ, recipient of an $8 million low interest loan through the Arizona Water Infrastructure Finance Authority funded through ARRA.  With this funding, the City is constructing improvements to their 157th Water Reclamation Facility to provide a more reliable reclaimed water system to deliver water to their users.  Pirnie is working on a new one million gallon reclaimed water reservoir, reclaimed water booster pump station, stand-by power generator and piping necessary to provide a reliable reclaimed water system throughout the City.  The project also provides a means to discharge excess reclaimed water to the Gila River.

According to Vice President Douglas Sawyers, the stimulus funds couldn't have come at a better time. "The stimulus program is helping our clients address aging infrastructure needs.  Without ARRA, these public and environmental health projects would have been otherwise delayed or not possible."
