SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The team at MakePi has been working tirelessly to design and develop the MakePad— an innovative tablet that teaches kids how to code. MakePad will be a champion of enhanced STEM learning and be an invaluable tool for teaching programming to kids as young as six.
The MakePi Journey
MakePi's journey began with a simple idea— "To make the learning of code possible for everyone." In addition, the team also realized that there are increasing opportunities for rewarding careers in the field of computer science. If kids could learn to code, they could avail themselves of these opportunities and make a real difference in years to come.
After much market research, the team felt that the currently available products were not up to scratch in the following areas: ease of use, affordability and accessibility. Using their backgrounds in STEM education and computer science, they put their heads together, kicked over their gray matter and began to conceptualize a tablet that would bring all these aspects together in one outstanding piece of interactive technology.
Ease of Use. Many parents and educators feel anxious about how to teach coding to their kids; perhaps because they feel a high degree of specialist technical knowledge is required or they simply don't know where to start. MakePad allays these anxieties. It is interactive, self-explanatory and easy as pie to operate. Furthermore, kids can build the MakePad with their own hands.
Affordability. To get some serious power under the 'hood', the outlay is significant, and this cost is often passed on to kids and their families. Without this power, however, the technology would be cumbersome and no doubt stifling to the quick witted and creative mind. Enter the Raspberry-Pi based processing technology. This little beast offers serious processing power at a fraction of the cost.
Accessibility. Very few schools in developing regions, including Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa have access to the Internet. This presents a problem as many products are greatly limited without it. However, thanks to MakePad's embedded applications, there is no need for Internet access to use it.
MakePad will soon be available thanks to a crowdfunding campaign. You can give your support and stay up to date here.
