Lynden Ice Locates New Ice Making Operation in Quincy, WA to Serve Eastern Washington
QUINCY, Wash., June 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As a result of various meetings and discussions with the Port of Quincy, Lynden Ice has selected Quincy, WA to locate an ice freezing, crushing and bagging operation to serve the greater eastern Washington area.
Lynden Ice is a leading producer of quality food grade packaged party and beverage ice in Washington State and currently has an ice making facility in Lynden, Washington (in western Washington) which produces 110 tons of ice in a 24-hour period.
Lynden Ice started in 1985 with 12 customers. Over the years, the demand for Lynden Ice's product and service grew quickly and the company now has approximately 500 customers in western Washington and nearly 300 customers in eastern Washington and northeastern Oregon.
At full capacity, Lynden Ice's new ice freezing, crushing and bagging operation in Quincy will be able to produce 210 tons per day. More importantly, the Quincy operation will allow Lynden Ice to dependably and cost effectively supply fresh pure ice to grocery and convenience stores in the greater eastern Washington area. As a result, in the next 12 months, Lynden Ice (with its new operation in Quincy) plans to increase its customer base to 350 customers in eastern Washington and as the operation in Quincy grows, Lynden Ice estimates it will be servicing 600 eastern Washington customers within the next five years.
Lynden Ice's selection of Quincy, WA for its new ice making operation complements the Port of Quincy's emerging reputation as a premier location for refrigerated and frozen shipping, storage and distribution. According to a recent study of 29 western U.S. and Canadian locations with intermodal connections to regional markets, Quincy, Washington ranked as the lowest cost location for operating a temperature controlled or refrigerated distribution center or a warehouse.
The Lynden Ice operation in Quincy will employ approximately 9 to 12 full time employees and is locating in a building leased from Columbia Colstor, a leader in temperature controlled warehousing with over 50 million cubic feet of refrigerated and/or frozen warehouse space in the Pacific Northwest.
