Look Good Feel Better for Teens Celebrates National Cancer Survivors Day with New Website; Announces Caly Bevier as Confidence Ambassador
WASHINGTON, June 1, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Look Good Feel Better for Teens®, a free public service program helping teens living with cancer cope with the appearance side effects of treatment, celebrates National Cancer Survivors Day with the launch of a new website, and by naming Caly Bevier as a "Confidence Ambassador" for the program.
A collaboration of the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association, Look Good Feel Better for Teens was established in 1996 and is offered to teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17, in 17 locations across the country where pediatric oncology treatment or support services are available, and provides online information and support on the website.
The new Look Good Feel Better for Teens website features responsive design that seamlessly adapts from a horizontal viewing environment to a vertical viewing environment, with a modern, clean, and easy-to-navigate layout. The site also integrates with social media platforms, making it easier than ever to share important information with friends and family in an instant.
"In addition to the very real physical and emotional concerns of the disease itself, the side effects of cancer treatment such as changes in skin tone and texture, hair loss, or weight gain or loss can be devastating to a teen's developing self-esteem," said Louanne Roark, Executive Director of the Look Good Feel Better Foundation. "We hope this new website will serve as a comprehensive resource for teens as they deal with these symptoms, and help them restore a new sense of normalcy in their lives. We are also excited to welcome Caly Bevier as our first Teen Confidence Ambassador. A Confidence Ambassador is someone who believes in the mission of Look Good Feel Better, and who helps promote the program to those who can benefit from its impact. Caly will work with Look Good Feel Better to generate awareness for the program, helping us reach more teens with cancer who can benefit from our support services as they fight the greatest battle of their lives."
Caly Bevier, one of Look Good Feel Better's 2016 DreamGirls, was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer at 15. She is best known for her appearance on America's Got Talent, where her performance earned her the "Golden Buzzer" from judge Simon Cowell, vaulting Caly into the live semi-finals and generating millions of views and shares on social media.
"When I was sick, I really got crazy with makeup – like over the top glam looks. Being in a Look Good Feel Better workshop, and meeting these amazing women and volunteers, I know we can bring Look Good Feel Better to other girls like me and it will be life-changing in so many ways."
