Lon Smith Roofing Takes Part In President Bush's Warrior 100K
Roofing company helps sponsor Major Peter Way's three-wheeled bike used in race
FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Lon Smith Roofing helped sponsor the Warrior 100K bike ride at the George W. Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas this past weekend. The event is held annually to honor veterans who have been wounded in service.
"What a proud moment for Lon Smith Roofing," said Scott Hamilton, Vice President of Sales for the company. "We have a long history of giving back to veterans through our 'Roof for Vets' program. So we were honored to partner with President Bush and help sponsor the Warrior 100K."
Each year, the Warrior 100K offers wounded veterans the chance to race their mountain bikes with President Bush along trails at his ranch. This year, the Bush Presidential Center asked Lon Smith Roofing to help sponsor the specialty bike used by Major Peter Way. Major Way served in Afghanistan and lost the use of his right leg. To ride in the race, Way needed the use of a three-wheel bike.
"We were honored to help pay for this bike," said Hamilton. "Major Way is a great hero and this was Lon Smith Roofing's way of saying, 'thanks.'"
"I'm never going to top this," Major Way said. "I've done some really fun stuff, some really cool stuff. But I said this morning, I think the bucket list just thrown out."
Hamilton said that Lon Smith will continue to work with the Bush Presidential Center to help honor veterans and it will continue its "Roof for Vets" program that offers a worthy vet in need a new roof at no charge.
"It's all about honoring those who have honored us with their service," Hamilton said. "That's what matters to us at Lon Smith Roofing."
