INDIANAPOLIS, May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Logansport Memorial Hospital and Woodlawn Hospital are now part of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE). By joining dozens of hospitals, along with long term care facilities and other healthcare providers throughout the state, physicians at Logansport Memorial and Woodlawn hospitals will be able to better serve patients by securely accessing necessary information to make decisions critical to patient care.

This is made possible through the Indiana Network for Patient Care™ (INPC™), one of the nation's premier technologies to connect disparate healthcare information technology systems. The INPC was developed and launched by the Regenstrief Institute, an internationally-recognized medical informatics and research organization. In partnership with Regenstrief, the INPC is now one of three core service offerings from the IHIE. (http://www.ihie.org/Solutions/default.php)
The INPC daily handles approximately three million secure transactions of clinically relevant data such as laboratory test results, medication and treatment histories, and other clinically important information in a standardized, electronic format. This benefits patients by enabling their doctors to choose optimal therapies and avoid drug-drug interactions, among other life-saving and efficiency-generating efforts.
"Providing the best patient care has and always will be our mission," said David Ameen, Logansport Memorial Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer. "By participating in this network, our physicians are at the cutting edge of where technology meets medicine to improve patient outcomes and provide an efficient use of healthcare resources."
"It is especially important that we've joined this effort along with other hospitals in north central Indiana, as patients don't always receive care just in one location," said Travis Albright, Woodlawn Hospital Information Services Director. "And by connecting to the larger healthcare community throughout the state, we can all work together to improve the care all patients receive."
Logansport Memorial Hospital is an 83 bed hospital serving patients in Cass County and north central Indiana. Since its inception in 1925, Logansport Memorial Hospital's goal has been quality care. The hospital is committed to achieving the best possible quality of life for area residents through health and wellness programs.
Woodlawn Hospital is a 25 bed hospital, serving patients in Fulton County and north central Indiana. The Mission of Woodlawn Hospital is to provide excellent healthcare services by highly skilled staff in a compassionate and caring manner. Woodlawn Hospital recognizes its responsibility to serve patients, employees, physicians, and the community.
The IHIE network includes facilities throughout the state, from Evansville, Ind. to Crown Point, Ind. (http://www.ihie.org/About/IHIE-Hospital-Network.php)
