The 9th Annual Lockton Authentic Swing Charity Golf Classic benefiting the ALS Association, Greater Los Angeles Chapter, raised more than $95,000 to help fund the chapter's programs and services which include monthly support groups; case management services, in-home visits by health professionals, and access to mobility equipment and communications devices that allow ALS patients to remain in their homes.
"Finding new medical treatments and a cure for ALS is a fundamental part of the association's charter. However, relieving the symptoms, preventing complications, and maintaining quality of life for those suffering from this devastating disease is equally important," says Timothy Noonan, CEO and president of Lockton Insurance Brokers, LLC. "We are honored to support the association's programs and services which are making a difference in the lives of ALS patients and their families."
Recognized as "Philanthropist of the Year" for his ongoing commitment to creating and improving chapter-patient services, Noonan is a longtime supporter who serves as trustee of the ALS Association, Greater Los Angeles Chapter. This year marks the fourth consecutive year his company has held title sponsorship of the tournament, raising a total of $125,000 in contributions.
Noonan, a strong advocate of community involvement on both a personal and corporate level, is also trustee of the UCLA Center on Aging. He is chairman of the board of directors for Phoenix Houses of California and has held leadership positions for The Help Group--a leading children's organization--for more than 10 years.
Due to his strong position on community involvement, Lockton Southern California is involved in more than 30 charitable organizations today.
About ALS
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower motor neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord. Movements like walking, speaking, swallowing, or breathing grow increasingly difficult. People with ALS are usually paralyzed in the later stages of the disease.
Today, approximately 35,000 people in the U.S. are victims of Lou Gehrig 's disease. The disease has no limits - it can attack regardless of race, sex, ethnicity, or socio-economic status. ALS attacks in the prime of life, between the ages of 40 and 60, with cases reported of individuals as young as their 20s. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
