Lighting Science Group Introduces Revolutionary New Ultra-Efficient LED Bulb to Replace America's Most Used Energy Hog -- The 60 Watt Incandescent Bulb
First High-Output 60 Watt Equivalent LED bulb at about Half of the Competition's Price
Lighting Science Group Continues its Campaign to Bring Affordable LED Lighting to the Consumer Market
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla., May 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The lighting revolution is here—Lighting Science Group will unveil today at LightFair 2010 a DEFINITY line 9 watt LED A19 bulb that will retail in the low $30 range and is a direct replacement for America's most commonly used 60 watt incandescent bulb. Stunning the competition, Lighting Science Group's breakthrough 770 lumen DEFINITY LED bulb surpasses the U.S. Department of Energy's benchmark testing of a 60 watt equivalency (739 lumens), is 80% more efficient than a 60 watt incandescent bulb, and will last close to 23 years.* By way of comparison, Lighting Science Group's new DEFINITY LED bulb, which will be built in the USA, will retail for about half the price, is more efficient, and will last twice as long as Philips' recently announced 60-watt equivalent EnduraLED A19 bulb. Today's announcement follows Lighting Science Group's successful launch of its high quality, yet affordable, line of retrofit LED bulbs with a suggested retail price starting below $20.
"One might ask how can we continue to produce such innovative American technology breakthroughs like the 9 watt DEFINITY LED bulb at such a low price? By revolutionizing the science of light, we are able to get more lumens out of our LED chips than any manufacturer on the market—both foreign and domestic," said Zach Gibler, Chief Executive Officer of Lighting Science Group. "While other companies are struggling to develop performance LED lighting products we are bringing to market state-of-the-art lighting solutions that Americans can afford."
The new DEFINITY LED bulb in the familiar A19 shape is dimmable and a direct replacement for the most common incandescent bulb in use in this country—over 425 million 60 watt incandescent bulbs are sold in the U.S. every year, making up some 50% of the bulb sales market. Furthermore, unlike compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), the DEFINITY LED bulb contains no mercury, is completely recyclable, and offers outstanding light quality. In most home applications, Americans are expected to save $255 in energy cost over the life of the product and the bulb will pay for itself in less than two years from energy savings.**
"Americans will now have the freedom to switch to an affordable, environmentally friendly and energy efficient lighting solution at a reasonable price without sacrificing light quality," said Gibler.
To ensure performance and reliability, the new DEFINITY 9 watt LED retrofit bulb will be tested by an independent laboratory approved by the U.S. Department of Energy's CALiPER program. The DEFINITY LED retrofit bulbs will be available through lighting distributors and directly from Lighting Science Group in the third quarter of this year. To see Lighting Science Group's new DEFINITY 9 watt A19 LED bulb visit booth # 2335 at LightFair International 2010, May 12-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
